Celebrating National Agriculture Awareness Week, farmers and consumers enjoyed a breakfast together to raise awareness of what farmers are paid for their produce.
About 500 attended a breakfast that featured a made-to-order omelet, sausage, biscuit, orange juice and coffee sold for 60 cents during the first Farmer's Share breakfast served at the Mid-East Career & Technology Center on Richards Road.

Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell C. Redding is seeking further support from UDSA Secretary Tom Vilsack to help Pennsylvania dairy producers recover from sustained record low milk prices.

A controversy has erupted over the tiny date stamped on the milk container in your refrigerator.
Core-Mark International Inc., a major food marketer and distributor, backed by some convenience stores and independent groceries, has asked the state Board of Livestock to drop Montana's regulation requiring a 12-day sell-by date on milk containers.
Since 1980, the state has required this sell-by date - also called a pull-by date - to be stamped on milk containers.

College freshman Graciela Aguero skipped her usual stint at the beach and visit with her grandparents this spring break.
Instead, she and seven other students from Florida International University cleaned barns, shoveled hay and fed rescued cows on a 175-acre farm in upstate New York.

At the Michigan Soybean Association's annual meeting on Dec. 9, 2009, Bill Spike, Owosso, was elected as an At-Large Director.
His position represents statewide broad planning and policy making decisions for Michigan soybean growers.
